Q:

How safe is it to use Radmin?

A:

A lot of attention was paid to security when designing Radmin. Here are some reasons why Radmin is completely safe:
  • Radmin 3.0 supports the fully OS-integrated Windows Vista/XP/2003/2000 user level security with NTLMv2 support. Permissions for Radmin connections can be given to users from trusted domains and active directories. Security settings interface is unified with Windows standard.
  • Even when Windows Security support is switched off, access to a remote computer with Radmin is restricted by a Radmin Security system. Radmin Security uses a challenge-response Diffie-Hellman based password authentication method with 2048-bit key size for secure user authentication. This method is similar to the authentication method used in Windows Security, but uses a much more sophisticated encoding.
  • Radmin ALWAYS works in encrypted mode, where all data are encrypted, including screen images, mouse movement, text and voice chat streams, and keys. Radmin 3.0 uses 256-bit AES strong encryption with randomly generated keys.
  • Radmin Server has a logging feature so all actions are written to the log file.
  • Radmin Server has an IP filter table. Enabling this option ensures you can get Radmin Server access only from the IP addresses and networks you specify.
  • Radmin has a self testing code defense that protects its code from being changed.
  • Radmin prevents incorrect Server configurations. Radmin Server 3.0 does not allow empty passwords.
  • Radmin Server 3.0 actively protects its settings, which are stored in the system registry. Only a user with administrator rights can access this registry branch.
  • Smart protection from password guessing includes such features as password anti-guessing security delays, banning IP addresses with excessive number of password guess attempts, etc.
  • Radmin Server 3.0 starts only as a service and doesn't start as an application on Windows Vista/XP/2003/2000, which improves security.

Q:

Are there any remote printing features?

A:

As for printing from remote machine via Radmin, this feature is being developed and will be implemented in future versions. For now we can advise to use printer sharing from "Microsoft networking". Add your local printer as remote printer to the remote computer and while printing select to print on your computer.

Q:

What is the 'Connect through host' option for?

A:

This option enables you to connect through a host when there is no direct TCP/IP connection with the computer you want to administer, but an intermediate host computer has a direct TCP/IP connection to the target computer (gateways etc.). The Radmin server must be running on both the intermediate host computer and the target computer.
Example: You have a computer on your local network that has a direct connection with the Internet. If you install the Radmin server on that computer, you can connect to the Internet from the other computers on your LAN by using that computer as an intermediate host.

Q:

How can I hide the Radmin Server 3.0 tray icon?

A:

The option of hiding Radmin Server tray icon is not available by default in Radmin 3.0 due to security reasons. The special "No tray icon" version of Radmin Server 3.0 is available for registered users. This version has the "Do not show" option in "General Options - Tray icon settings". Note that this version has no trial period. Activation is required after installation.

The special version of Radmin 3.0 is protected from direct download from our website. In order to obtain Radmin Server 3.0 "No tray icon" version, please fill in the "No Tray Icon" Request Form. We will then grant you access and send you the links to the appropriate files and download instructions.

Q:

How can I send Ctrl-Alt-Del to the remote computer?

A:

If you want to send Ctrl-Alt-Del key to a remote computer you can use 'Send Ctrl-Alt-Del' entry from the Remote Screen window menu. This feature will work in 'Full control' connection type. You can also use Ctrl-Alt-F12 hotkey for a quick sending.

Q:

How can I return from the full-screen mode to the normal one?

A:

Just press F12. Using this key you can switch between normal and full-screen modes. if you want to send the F12 key to a remote computer, use 'Send F12' entry from the RScreen window menu.

Q:

How do I find the IP address of my computer?

A:

Open Start/Run dialog and enter "cmd". Then at the command prompt enter "ipconfig". Another way to know the IP address of the computer is to move your mouse pointer over the Radmin server tray icon. It will show you the list of IP addresses.

Q:

How do I copy the Radmin phonebook (connection list) from one computer to another?

A:

Launch Radmin Viewer and click Tools-Import Phonebook. You will be prompted to give a path to the phonebook .rpb file. Then transfer this file to another computer and use Tools-Export Phonebook there to export phonebook.

Q:

I'm behind a router and don't have public IP address. What can I do?

A:

Several situations are possible:
  • Your computers are in an internal network behind a NAT based router. Only the router has a public IP address. You can access your internal network computers via the Internet. To do this you need to configure 'Forwarding' on the router/firewall. Configure the router to forward connections from a port on the router to a specific IP address and port (Radmin server's default port is 4899) of the target computer in your internal network. You need to assign a port on the router for every computer you need to access. The router will then forward the connection to your computer in the internal network.
  • Your PCs have real IP addresses but the firewall has its port 4899 closed. In this case you have to open 4899 or use another open port.
  • Radmin Server does not start on the server. Examine the log file on the server for the reason.

Q:

How can I speed up Radmin in the remote screen mode? I use a slow (modem) connection between computers.

A:

To speed things up, you can disable the wallpaper on the remote computer. Also, decrease transferred color depth in Remote Screen – Color Format menu in certain connection properties. The choice of color depth is much wider in 3.0 version. If you are connected via a modem you can't have update rates higher than 10 per second, just because signals can't physically go there and back more than 10 times per second (ping > 100ms).

Q:

How can I speed up Radmin in the remote screen mode? I use a fast connection between computers.

A:

Make sure your update speed is not limited by the 'Maximum updates per second' field from the option dialog of the RScreen window.

Q:

Why does Radmin 3.0 disable Aero Style in Windows Vista?

A:

Radmin 3.0 uses its own mirror driver for desktop transfer. Windows Vista disables Aero Style each time any mirror driver starts. It is a feature of Windows, all mirror drivers would disable Aero Style. Microsoft Remote Assistance has the same behavior.

Q:

I can't see the remote screen when the remote display is in full-screen text mode. Is it a bug?

A:

Currently, Radmin cannot register screen changes when the remote computer is in full-screen text mode. Drawing on the screen isn't performed by the GDI (Graphic Display Interface) when the remote computer is in such a mode. Windows works with full-screen text modes in an undocumented way via a video port driver.

Q:

I have a problem while running some console application via Radmin telnet session. Applications do not work properly. What can I do?

A:

Some Win32 console applications use direct access to the console. These applications cannot work via telnet mode because telnet mode on the server uses standard I/O streams to interact with applications. You can run these applications in RScreen mode.

Q:

I need to make multiple simultaneous connections to Radmin Server 3.0. What are the system requirements?

A:

The minimum required server configuration for 50 simultaneous View Only connections to Radmin Server 3.0 in 8-bit color mode (256 colors) and 800x600 pixels resolution is as follows:
  • 100 Mbit network (256 Kbit per client)
  • Celeron 2 GHz
  • 256 MB RAM
The requirements grow proportionally with the increase of color depth and screen resolution.

Q:

I can't connect to Radmin server. What can I do?

A:

Check you connection to the remote host via TCP/IP: Type in the command prompt: ping remote_host_name
Ex: ping 10.0.0.1
Ex: ping myserver.mycompany.com
Make sure that radmin server is running on the remote computer. Verify that you are connecting to the correct port on which the radmin server is waiting for the incoming connection. Check the firewall settings on the remote computer. You can also examine Radmin’s logfile.txt to discover what's causing the problem.

Q:

I can’t connect to the Radmin Server 3.0 since the last update of AVG Anti-Virus. Is Radmin virus free and safe to use?

A:

There was a temporary issue that AVG Anti-Virus was detecting mirrorv3.dll file as infected. This detection is fixed in virus database No: 269.13.23/1016 and higher. We recommend you to update your AVG installation and reinstall Radmin Server. We are sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

Q:

I obtain a high processor load on the remote computer, when I see its screen remotely. How can I make it lower?

A:

Set the 'max screen updates per second' entry to a smaller value in the 'Options' dialog of the RScreen window menu. The Radmin server can cause a high processor load when the 'Maximum updates per second' value is set to values bigger than 50. Anyway Radmin takes only free CPU, so it's not bothering.

Q:

I got an error when I was trying to connect to Radmin server. What can I do?

A:

This usually means that the connection was broken by the server side due to an IP filter restriction on the server. To see and change your IP filter settings, you can run 'Radmin server setup' from the Start menu on the server side. If you get the message "Can't connect to server" you can turn on the log file to know the reason. Maybe RServer doesn't start. Be sure that you have 3.0 versions of Radmin Server and Viewer installed on both sides of the connection. Also, the problem can be caused by some software that's incompatible with Radmin. Another possible cause is network problems so be sure you can ping the remote PC.

Q:

During Radmin Server installation error message appears: "Installation of Radmin Server components has failed". What can I do?

A:

The problem described is rare but can be caused by many different reasons. In order to solve a problem you need to send additional information to our technical support. Please, read the troubleshooting guide.

Q:

Radmin Viewer can't connect in 'Fullscreen' and 'View Only' connection modes and Radmin Server log reads 'WaitForMirrorState(REQ) failed' or 'WaitForMirrorState(ON) failed'. What can I do?

A:

The problem described is rare but can be caused by many different reasons. In order to solve a problem you need to send additional information to our technical support. Please, read the troubleshooting guide.

Q:

I get prompted for a username and password. After entering the requested information I get an error saying "Bad Password"... What can I do?

A:

Check if it's allowed for a user to connect to that PC from network. For Windows XP go: Control panel -> User Accounts ...

Q:

I've lost my license key. What should I do?

A:

Please, use our key request form and we will re-send your key.
